The story so far...

Knit & Stitch was founded in 2007 by Kathleen who took over Maltby High Street's yarn shop. She transformed the shop and introduced a greater choice of yarns, haberdashery products and fabrics and introduced workshops to the area which quickly became very popular.

Kathleen had previously run a successful soft furnishing business supplying bespoke and made to measure items to private and corporate customers and always had a passion for sewing, knitting and crochet. Throughout her first few months in Maltby she became increasingly aware that she was one of the only yarn shops in the area and so with the help of her daughter Liz, they set up a yarn store in the Corn Exchange at Doncaster market just three days a week. This was perfect for Liz with a one year old girl and another on the way! Today you’ll often find Ella or Evie behind the counter serving customers in the school holidays.

The business grew to three shops that included York but after Covid-19 hit the UK in 2020 it shone a different perspective on life as we knew it. We made the very difficult decision to close two of the three shops and focus our efforts in Doncaster and online.

By December 2020 Kathleen took very ill and sadly passed away in February 2021 after a short illness with cancer. Her legacy and all she has created and inspired us to do will live on in Knit & Stitch.

We hope you will find the time to visit us in Doncaster or join us in the online community through Facebook, Instagram and of course by signing up to our emails.

See you soon,

Liz x
