Rag Rug Making - Full Day Class

Saturday 11 January | 10h00-16h00 | Elspeth | £75

Our full day workshops are designed to give you all the skills you need to be able to start any rag rug project for yourself at home. With plenty of 1-2-1 help throughout the day you will learn how to use the rag rug equipment, how to work with the hessian, how to choose and prepare materials, how to design for rag rug, how to do the two different types of rag rugging (loopy and shaggy) and how to finish your work. During the session you will get the opportunity to begin a rug, cushion or smaller project (depending on how ambitious you’re feeling). We ask that you bring a packed lunch with you but all the rag rug materials are provided on the day. You even get a latch hook to take home with you!

Includes all materials & refreshments but please bring your lovely self and a packed lunch.

Wet Felted Bowls, Vessels and Vases*

Join textile artist Kat Wood and learn how to create unique and beautiful bowls, vessels and vases using only wool fibres. No previous experience of felt making is required and by the end of the afternoon session you will have a stunning, three dimensional, felted vessel to take home with you.

Crochet Corner2Corner Shawl **

Saturday 1 February | 10h00-13h00 | Hermione | £25

For crocheters confident with the basic stitches, this is the perfect workshop to learn the technique C2C (corner to corner) to create a textured shawl to keep you cozy in the winter months. C2C can also be used to make blankets and is a great way to create blocks that you can change the colour of in order to follow a gridded colour chart, like you might in knitting.  

Bring along 200g of yarn of your choice and the appropriate sized hook.

 

Finishing Off Techniques **

Saturday 8 February | 10h00-13h00 | Hermione | £25

This workshop will teach you how to turn pieces of knitting into a sophisticated garment. We will practice picking up stitches along the edge of your work, doing a sloped cast-off for perfect shoulder seams and how to do a three-needle bind-off. Of course, we will also look at how to put your finished garment together: you will learn the best ways of sewing stocking stitch and garter stitch seams.

Please bring three 10cm/4in squares in DK (without slip stitch edges), three 4mm needles and a sewing up needle.

In our half day workshops you will learn all the rag rug basics – how to use the rag rug equipment, how to select and prepare materials and how to do the two types of rag rugging (loopy and shaggy). You will be provided with all the materials you need on the day (including a latch hook to take home) and will start a small rag rug project during the class (traditionally a jolly rag rug flower). All our classes are friendly, informal and involve plenty of tea and biscuits. Our introductory class is a nice way to dip your toe into rag rugging and meet some like-minded people.

Felt Making for Beginners *

Beginner Sock Making **

Saturday 29 February | 10h00-15h00 | Hermione | £35

For those wanting to expand their knitting arsenal and knit socks.  Learn to cast on in the round on double pointed needles, turn a heel, shape the foot and graft the toe together.  By the end of the day you'll have one very fine hand knitted sock!  (Although this class is suitable for relative beginners, you will already need to know the basic knit and purl stitches).

Pick up the popular crochet craze of making cute dolls and animals in this Japanese style, by making an Easter chick or rabbit. This class will teach you how to use Magic Loop to get you started, as well as increasing and decreasing and following a pattern. You will need to know the crochet basics to get the most out of this workshop.

Yarn provided, bring a 3.5mm hook.
