Sew Saturday – Introduction to Sewing *

Saturday 12 January | 9h30-12h30 | Caroline | £25

A 3 hour, practical introduction to using a sewing machine. Learn what all the dials and switches can do; how to thread up and use the shuttle; tips given for sewing accurately and putting together some simple seams. We will cover how to insert a new needle and which type to use when. A chance to get answers to all your sewing questions too!

Includes materials, bring a basic sewing kit that includes sharp scissors, a quick un-pick, pins, hand sewing needles, a tape measure and notepad. You can bring your own machine or hire one for £10.

 

Sew Saturday – Introduction to the Overlocker *

Saturday 12 January | 13h00-16h00 | Caroline | £25

A short workshop to help you get the best from your overlocker. We will help you understand what your overlocker can do; teach you how to thread it up using 3 and 4 threads; how to adjust the stitches so it’s perfect for the fabrics you are threading and help you to be more confident with your overlocker. We have 2 overlockers available to hire (£10 additional charge) otherwise you should bring your own along with its accessories and manual if available.

Threads and fabric provided.

 

Introduction to Patchwork & Quilting **

Saturday 19 January | 10h00-16h00 | Louise | £40

Make a lap quilt from pre-cut 5" squares from a stunning charm pack. Arrange these fabrics into blocks and then using the sewing machine, sew together accurately with the essential 1/4" foot. Quilt together the top, wadding and backing using a quilting foot and finally finish by binding the edges together. This workshop covers all stages of quilt making from cutting to finishing off, which can then be applied to much larger projects.

Includes materials and machines, bring a basic sewing kit that includes sharp scissors, a quick un-pick, pins, hand sewing needles, a tape measure and notepad.

 

Learn to Crochet *

Saturday 2 February | 10h00-15h00 | Julie | £35

Suitable for complete beginners, this workshop is the perfect introduction to crochet. Learn how to hold the hook and yarn, how to crochet basic stitches and be able to understand and follow a pattern.

Sew Saturday - Mystery Quilt Block **

Saturday 9 February | 9h30-12h30 or 13h00-16h00 | Louise | £25

Pineapple: Work on your next block or begin your journey into Patchwork & Quilting by producing a single quilted block that can be the start of a beautiful quilt. You will cut and piece together a selection of coordinating fabrics and quilt as you go to have a fine looking 12" quilted block. You can then repeat the process or join us at the Mystery Quilt Block classes throughout the year to have a variety of quilted blocks.

Includes materials, bring a basic sewing kit that includes sharp scissors, a quick un-pick, pins, hand sewing needles and a tape measure.

 

Next Steps, Crochet **

Saturday 16 February | 9h30-12h30 | Julie | £20 single class or book morning and afternoon session together for £35

Now that you have mastered the basic stitches and a Granny Square, it's time to move onto the next level. The class will cover increasing and decreasing, post stitches, foundation stitches, bobbles/popcorns and shells, sliding loop for working in the round, learn to follow a chart for a motif and join motifs as you go.  

Yarn provided, please bring a selection of hooks.

 

Finishing Off Techniques **

Saturday 16 February | 13h00-16h00 | Julie | £20 single class or book morning and afternoon session together for £35

Learn how to finish off your knitted garments with ease. This course will enable you to get a polished finish to a garment which does justice to the weeks spent knitting the pieces. You will learn mattress stitch and 3-needle cast off, as well as pick up stitches along the neck band.

Bring with you three 4mm needles, a sewing-up needle and a pair of scissors. Also you will need to have worked three 10cm/4inch squares of stocking stitch in DK yarn (different colours are fine) making sure that every stitch is worked rather than slipped.

 

Tree of Life Cushion **

Saturday 23 February | 10h00-16h00 | Louise | £40

Using various patchwork techniques, create a pretty cushion which is perfect for welcoming the spring. You will select fabrics then cut, position and appliqué before piecing together your cushion cover and finish with an envelope back.

Includes materials but not cushion pad.

Bring a basic sewing kit that includes sharp scissors, a quick un-pick, pins, hand sewing needles and a note pad and pencil.

 

Two-part Trouser Making Workshop **

Saturday 2 + 16 March | 10h00-16h00 | Caroline | £80

Frustrated at trousers that don't fit, that just don't feel right?  It’s not you it’s the pattern!! This 2-part workshop will make all your trouser dreams come true!!

 

Day 1: You will use your measurements to make an individual trouser pattern, and make a sample in calico (toile) and fit it to you. From the toile a final fitted pattern will be made.

Day 2: You will make a pair of trousers from the final fitted pattern in your desired fabric*, you will be shown how to alter the style, leg shape [narrower/wider, slim fit or flared leg, add simple pockets, adjust the length etc)

 

Includes calico for toile and machine use; bring a basic sewing kit that includes sharp scissors, a quick un-pick, pins, hand sewing needles, a tape measure and note pad and pen.

Sew Saturday – Tweaking Sewing Patterns **

Saturday 9 March | 13h00-16h00 | Caroline | £25

Learn how to custom fit a garment pattern to your individual shape and size. We can adapt for fuller busts, prominent abdomens, curvy backs and odd shoulders; how to make a skirt hang straight and to your desired length. We will cover how to measure the pattern to ensure it’s not too small or large and what to do when the pattern is not quite right!

Bring scissors to cut paper, a tape measure, pins, pen/pencil & notepad, a sewing pattern of your choice or we have several to choose from for an extra small charge.

 

Love your Overlocker *
