Love your Overlocker *

Saturday 22 June | 10h00-16h00 | Caroline | £35

A one day workshop to help you get the best from your overlocker. We will help you understand what your overlocker can do; teach you to thread it up using 3 and 4 threads; how to adjust the stitches so it’s perfect for the fabrics you are threading; how to overlock corners and curves; show you the different stitches and what you can do with them and help you to be more confident with the overlocker. We have 2 overlockers available to hire (£10 additional charge) otherwise you should bring your own along with its accessories and manual if available. Threads and fabric provided.

Ever wanted to learn how to knit or crochet? Well now you can! See if this is for you in these short taster sessions to try your hand at a new craft. Starter kit and goody bag included.

 

Raglan Sleeved Top using the Overlocker **

Saturday 6 July | 10h00-16h00 | Caroline | £35

Further develop your overlocking skills and create a raglan sleeve top or dress with a choice of cap, short or long sleeves.

You will make a simple pattern to your own measurements for a custom fit that you can take away and use again and again.

You will need to provide fabric - soft & drapey or stretch (such as jersey), matching threads for your overlocker, ballpoint needle/ jersey/stretch machine needles and some sharp scissors and a tape measure.

This class is suitable for those with an overlocker and some sewing experience. You should know the basics of the Overlocker before coming to this class.

Sew Saturday - Mystery Quilt Block **

Saturday 13 July | 9h30-12h30 or 13h00-16h00 | Louise | £25

Drunkards Path: Work on your next block or begin your journey into Patchwork & Quilting by producing a single quilted block that can be the start of a beautiful quilt. You will cut and piece together a selection of coordinating fabrics and quilt as you go to have a fine looking 12" quilted block. You can then repeat the process or join us at the Mystery Quilt Block classes throughout the year to have a variety of quilted blocks.

Includes materials; bring a basic sewing kit that includes sharp scissors, a quick un-pick, pins, hand sewing needles and a tape measure.

 

Tunisian Crochet **

Saturday 3 August | 9h30-12h30 | Julie | £25

Learn some of the basic stitches of this increasingly popular craft which combines elements of knitting and crochet to produce a fabric that is unique. Learn how to increase, decrease and use short rows to shape the fabric. You will also learn a variant of Tunisian crochet using a double ended hook to produce a two colour reversible fabric. Basic crochet understanding is preferred.

Includes yarn; bring a 6.5mm double ended Tunisian hook - available in store at a discounted rate.

 

Sew Saturday – Introduction to Sewing *

Saturday 10 August | 9h30-12h30 | Caroline | £25

A 3 hour, practical introduction to using a sewing machine. Learn what all the dials and switches can do; how to thread up and use the shuttle; tips given for sewing accurately and putting together some simple seams. We will cover how to insert a new needle and which type to use when. A chance to get answers to all your sewing questions too!

Includes material; bring a basic sewing kit that includes sharp scissors, a quick un-pick, pins, hand sewing needles, a tape measure and notepad. You can bring your own machine or hire one for £10.

 

Sew Saturday – Seams Good! *

Saturday 10 August | 13h00-16h00 | Caroline | £25

A short workshop to help you get a better understanding of the different types of seams used when making garments. We will cover flat fell, French, piped, slot, top stitched, eased/ princess and gathered then learn when to adapt your choice depending on the types of fabrics and garments you’re making. You’ll learn how to measure seams, how to keep them straight and deal with curves. Useful for beginners (who have sewn before) or the more experienced sewer. Bring a basic sewing kit, threads and a plastic bobbin, fabric provided.

 

Two-part Wrap Skirt Workshop **

Tuesday 13 + 20 August | 15h00-17h30 | Caroline | £35

Create a beautiful and very fashionable wrap skirt; flared or straight, lusciously long or skimpy short, it’s up to you to form your own fashion style. You will begin by making a custom pattern to fit you perfectly and proceed to make it in your choice of fabric.

Introduction to Patchwork & Quilting *

21 September | 10h00-16h00 | Louise | £40

Make a lap quilt from pre-cut 5" squares from a stunning charm pack. Arrange these fabrics into blocks and then using the sewing machine, sew together accurately with the essential 1/4" foot. Quilt together the top, wadding and backing using a quilting foot and finally finish by binding the edges together. This workshop covers all stages of quilt making from cutting to finishing off, which can then be applied to much larger projects.

Two-part Trouser Making Workshop **

Saturday 5 + 19 October | 10h00-16h00 | Caroline | £80

Frustrated at trousers that don't fit, that just don't feel right?  It’s not you it’s the pattern!! This 2-part workshop will make all your trouser dreams come true!!

Day 1: You will use your measurements to make an individual trouser pattern, and make a sample in calico (toile) and fit it to you. From the toile a final fitted pattern will be made.

Day 2: You will make a pair of trousers from the final fitted pattern in your desired fabric*, you will be shown how to alter the style, leg shape (narrower/wider, slim fit or flared leg), add simple pockets, and adjust the length.

Includes calico for toile and machine use; bring a basic sewing kit that includes sharp scissors, a quick un-pick, pins, hand sewing needles, a tape measure and note pad and pen.

Perfect how you insert zips into all your sewing projects - centred, lapped, exposed, fly, concealed -and know which machine foot to use for which type of zip.  

Includes fabric and zips; bring a basic sewing kit to include threads, scissors/snips, note book and pencil.

 

Continental Knitting *

Saturday 16 November | 9h30-12h30 | Julie | £25

This workshop will teach you how to knit continental style, holding the yarn in the left hand and picking up your stitches. If you are a crocheter wanting to learn how to knit, this may be a more intuitive approach for you; but even experienced knitters can benefit from being able to switch between methods: alternative movements may help relieve wrist pain, and some people maintain that continental knitting allows you to work much faster.

Yarn provided, please bring a pair of 4mm needles.
