Sew Saturday - Mystery Quilt Block **

Saturday 14 March | 9h30-12h30 or 13h00-16h00 | Louise | £25

Trapunto: Work on your next block or begin your journey into Patchwork & Quilting by producing a single quilted block that can be the start of a beautiful quilt. You will cut and piece together a selection of coordinating fabrics and quilt as you go to have a fine looking 12" quilted block. You can then repeat the process or join us at the Mystery Quilt Block classes throughout the year to have a variety of quilted blocks.

Includes materials, bring a basic sewing kit that includes sharp scissors, a quick un-pick, pins, hand sewing needles and a tape measure.

 

Block Workshop - Skirt Making **

Two-part: Saturday 7 + 21 March | 10h00-16h00 |

5 week course: Starting 5 May (5 consecutive weeks) 15h00-17h30

Are you struggling to find the perfect skirt for your body shape and preferred style?  Fear not, we can work together to find the style that suits you. We will explore variations such as panels, flare, drape, pleats and waistbands and you will adapt your pattern to your own design and make your made to measure custom style skirt. Please note that circular skirts are not possible at this class.

 

Part 1: You will use your measurements to make an individual skirt pattern and make a sample in calico (toile) and fit it to you. From this pattern it is possible to create almost any skirt pattern. From the toilé, a final fitted pattern will be made.

 

Part 2: You will make a skirt from the final fitted pattern in your desired fabric* You will be shown how to alter the style, shape and length and finish to your preference.

Includes calico for toile, pattern paper and machine use; bring a basic sewing kit that includes sharp scissors, a quick un-pick, pins, hand sewing needles, a tape measure and note pad and pen.

*Fabric requirement list given at time of booking, provide your own threads, zips and interfacings if required.

 

Needle Felted Picture *

Have you ever wondered about needle felting but just don’t know where to start? Let’s show you! Together we will make a needle felted picture (approx 6" Sq in size) using raw fibre and a felting needle. Fibres, needles etc are provided.  The Photo frame is not included.  We'll show you how to mix fibres to obtain the different  effects, how to felt onto a background fabric to create a picture you will be proud of.

 

Includes materials and equipment use.

Recreate Your Favourite Garment *

Saturday 18 April | 10h00-16h00 | Caroline | £35

Do you have an item of clothing that you love so much that you’d like to another? Then come along to this class and learn how to draft a pattern from an existing garment; a pattern you can use again and again perhaps with a more suitable fabric, colour or with slight alterations. You will be able to make up to 3 patterns (depending on complexity, for example an A-line skirt will take less time than a tailored jacket to reproduce) plus you can calculate how much fabric you’ll need and the best fabrics to use for your pattern.

Please note that this is a pattern making workshop, there will be no time to sew.

Puffy Quilt **

New babies deserve the snuggest of blankets all year round and you can learn to make a puffy blanket at this class. You can choose your fabrics from our selection and learn some basic patchwork techniques before sewing, stuffing and finishing off your blanket before gifting itor just keep it for yourself with it being so damn tactile!

Includes fabric and stuffing, bring a basic sewing kit that includes sharp scissors/ rotary cutter, a quick un-pick, pins, hand sewing needles and a tape measure.

Love your Overlocker *

Saturday 16 May | 10h00-16h00 | Caroline | £36

A one-day workshop to help you get the best from your overlocker. We will help you understand what your overlocker can do; teach you to thread it up using 3 and 4 threads; how to adjust the stitches so it’s perfect for the fabrics you are threading; how to overlock corners and curves; show you the different stitches and what you can do with them and help you to be more confident with the overlocker. We have 2 overlockers available to hire (£10 additional charge) otherwise you should bring your own along with its accessories and manual if available. Threads and fabric provided

Introduction to Needle Felting

You will be taught the basic steps in creating 3D shapes and objects from raw wools using a felting needle, it will be enough to get you started on what is a very therapeutic and relaxing craft.

Bodice Block **

Two-part: Saturday 6 + 20 June | 10h00-16h00

5 week course: Starting 21 July (5 consecutive weeks) 15h00-17h30

This extended workshop will show you how to measure and make a simple bodice (known as a toile). The toile will be fitted to your upper body and a sleeveless pattern will be made from it. We will explore variations such as necklines and simple collars, armhole shapes and various styles, we can add flare, fullness and hemlines to make it fit your body shape. From the custom pattern it is possible to create almost any bodice garment.

 

Day 1: You will use your measurements to make an individual bodice pattern and make a sample in calico (toile) and fit it to you. From this pattern it is possible to create almost any pattern. With the toilé, a final fitted pattern will be made.

 

Day 2: You will make a top from the final fitted pattern in your desired fabric* You will be shown how to alter the style, shape and length and finish to your preference.

Sew Saturday – Sewing with Tricky Fabrics **

Saturday 11 July | 13h00-16h00 | Caroline | £25

Learn how to deal with tricky and unusual fabrics in your sewing projects. Whether it’s dressmaking or patchwork, we will explore a range of different fabrics including chiffon, silk, jersey, fleece, fur, wool, satin and lycra and show you the ideal way to prepare them before you start sewing, how to set up your machine using the correct needle and why it matters and explain and demonstrate when and how interfacings should be used with the fabrics.

Bring scissors to cut paper and fabric, a tape measure, pins, pen/pencil & notepad and any tricky fabrics you would like advice on.
