Wow, what a fabulous weekend we have just had in Doncaster. It was the weekend when the town really showed off its creative talents. We were so happy to be part of it with our Yarn Bombed market stall (and other parts), I hope you had a chance to come down to see it. Did you find your fish? Or one of the many other items that we made for this?

A couple of months ago we asked for fish, the response was amazing, fish were making their way to us from all parts of Yorkshire. On Saturday I had a quick count and totted up a massive 389 knitted and crocheted fish! And that's after some went walk-abouts. (It seems there are some people out there who can't keep their hands off things that don't belong to them! - hopefully our string of chillies, hanging basket, crab and nets of fish have gone to good homes!)

There are too many people to thank - all the groups who were so enthused by this and really got into the yarn bombing spirit over the past few months; our tutor Julie who patiently taught many new people how to knit and crochet (workshops are still available with us on a weekly basis); Rachel from Doncopolitan magazine who's crazy idea this was late last year and was an expert yarn bomber on Thursday night!

It's nice knowing that the groups are all continuing - these are as follows:

-Knit & Stitch Crafternoon - Wednesdays 1pm-3pm 26 Market Place, Doncaster £Free

-Get Involved - Tuesdays 10am-1pm Doncaster Central Library, meet in the café £Free

-Carcroft & Skellow Sewing Bee - Tuesdays 6pm-8.30pm Chestnut View Communal Hall on Edward Road, Carcroft £3 per visit (Their Facebook page is here)

-Marketplace Alehouse - Thursdays 2pm-4pm £Free

-Cask Corner - Tuesdays 5pm-7pm

If you like being crafty and are free on any of these days then pop down to learn new things and meet new people. You will be most welcome at any of these groups.

It was also a tearful afternoon as we waved Liz C off on her maternity leave. She has been with us in Doncaster for three and a bit years and has been fabulous. As long as her baby behaves, she'll be back with us soon. Good luck Lizzie, you are going to be a fab new Mummy and we want lots of pictures of you both in matching knit wear!

If you took some yarn bomb photos, feel free to add them to our Facebook page for all to enjoy. The items that were made are being sent to Rossington's Fun Palace, another festival taking place on Saturday 4th July. More details can be found here

Thanks you dearly for all your help with this fun project, now you can make whatever you want!

Now in it's third year, Yarndale Festival promises to be better and brighter than ever so we ceratinly won't be missing out!

Following the fantastic trips we took last year, we will be running return coaches from Doncaster and York in order to attend the creative yarns show in Skipton, North Yorkshire on Sunday 27th September 2015.

Doncaster: The coach leaves the Market Car Park 9am and leaves Skipton at 4pm (arrives back in Doncaster approx 5:30pm). Tickets are £18.

York: The coach leaves Peasholme Green at 9am and leaves Skipton at 4pm (arrives back in York approx 5:30pm). Tickets are £20.

Tickets include your coach journey there and back and your entry ticket and brochure. Tickets are available to purchase directly from any of our shops , with cash payment required at the time of booking.

But hurry, places are already selling fast!

What is Yarndale?

If you haven't been to or heard about Yarndale before then you can take a look at their website here. It's a magical weekend at Skipton Auction Mart where thousands of crafters can gather at the festival market place to be inspired by hundreds of exhibitors with a love of all things woolly. Last year the place was decorated with beautiful knitted and crocheted bunting and there were such wonderful products and projects on display and to purchase that you didn't know where to look (or what to buy!).

All sorts of different produce (the majority of it independently made) are available, so whether it's knitting, crochet, felting, spinning, weaving or even lace making you are sure to find something to get your creative juices going. And if you can't wait to start your projects before you get home, there are plenty of seating areas where you can plonk yourself down with a brew and get your armoury out!

We also enjoyed meeting various animals some exhibitors took along, such as the super soft angora rabbits and the delightful alpacas (not for sale unfortunately!)

Tips:

• Wear some comfortable shoes as, although the market isn’t gigantic, you are sure to do a lot of walking.

• They do have food stalls and cafes there but it is worth taking some water and perhaps a packed lunch to save queuing – last year the weather was lovely so many of us sat outside to picnic!

• Take plenty of cash, although some stalls take cards and there is an ATM, again it just saves queuing – so more time for perusing!

We hope you can join our road trip or if our coaches are full...see you there! :)

Hello lovers of all things crafty!

Welcome to Knit and Stitch's first news update.

JOIN US FOR A WEEKEND OF CRAFTY DELIGHTS 19-22 JUNE !

We're starting things off with real excitement about the DNweekeND 2015 arts and crafts extravaganza and how you can get involved alongside Knit and Stitch.

All across Doncaster Town Centre over the weekend of 19th to 22nd June 2015, the streets will come alive with all the best arts and crafts curiosities that this wonderful town has to offer!

It's organised by Rightupourstreet

Knit and Stitch will be joining the festivities in a number of ways to show the town just how creative and inspiring the Doncaster community can be - this means you!

We will be hosting a market stall like no other... all of our produce will be handcrafted through traditional techniques like knitting, crocheting and sewing and we could do with a few more pairs of hands to help us with this. We want to replicate the fantastic fresh goods that are on offer in our markets using the talents of your good selves including fruit, vegetables, flowers, cakes, bread, meat and anything else you might come across.

So, how can you help?

We would love any handmade contributions to our market stall but in particular we would ask people to use up their scraps of yarn by knitting or crocheting some FISH to adorn our stall. We have a handy free pattern here available to download, from which you can knit or crochet as many fish as you wish. Of course, other seafood is also welcome and please feel free to share any copyright-free patterns here in our comments so that we can share your fabulous ideas.

We would like all fish to shoal their way to our Doncaster shop no later than Wednesday 17th June so we can attach them to our arm-knitted fishing nets!!

How else can you get involved?

If you are part of a knitting or craft group, please get in touch with us as we would love to be able to represent you at our stall. The idea would be for your group to make a number of particular items, for example apples or bread loaves or flowers or bacon slices! We would then display these on the stall with a note detailing your group, such as who, where and when you meet to craft.

You can use our Contact page on this site or email info@knitandstitchonline.com to discuss how we can provide you with yarn and patterns.

Even if you don't belong to a group and are a novice crafter, we would appreciate any stretches of knitting or crochet (squares, pompoms, half made garments!) to help with our YARNBOMBING to be dotted around the market area.

Join us at the following sessions to knit and natter:

Marketplace Alehouse and Deli - Thursday 14th May 2pm-4pm (and every week thereafter)

Knit & Stitch Doncaster - Wednesdays 20th May & 3rd June 1pm-3pm (and every week)

We will also be holding a student Patchwork & Quilting exhibition at the store during DN Weekend...more details to follow.

Give us a shout with your interest and share this information with your fellow crafters so we can make a colourful stamp on Doncaster this summer!

Happy knitting etc!
