Welcome to Knit and Stitch's news updates
Here we will post items on current Knit and Stitch news, special activities and offers and other random bits of joyful information related to what we love best.
I hope you and your families are safe and well. This 'lockdown' has been a strange time for all of us and I think we are all just wanting normal life to resume, whatever the new normal is!
However, it's been a time where many of us have had time to reflect on what's important to us and reassess our lives and with that, Kath and I have made some important decisions about the future of Knit & Stitch.
It's with great sadness that Knit & Stitch Maltby and York will close permanently over the next few weeks and just Doncaster will remain open. We hope to maintain the Mail Orders and hopefully (soon) online ordering part of the business as well as the physical shop in Doncaster town centre stocking lots of wonderful things.
For those who have supported us since opening and throughout the lockdown by ordering and calling, we truly thank you for keeping us busy.
There's a little video message over on Facebook (too large a file to attach here) that I filmed earlier explaining our decision and what will happen next. If you are a student with us please get in touch by email requesting what you'd like to do with the credit from your classes or workshop booked in either York and Maltby.
Once shops are allowed to open week beginning 15th June, Knit & Stitch will open with limited days and hours (see below) with social distancing measures in place. York will open for 2 weeks before closing permanently and Maltby will close by the end of July. We will do all we can to accommodate you during this time.
Knit & Stitch is still here, just a little smaller than it was before.
Take care and see you soon,
Kath & Liz x

I had this idea back in January when the skies were grey and feel it’s now time to release a little group project!
Imagine, our shop fronts (and beyond) filled with handmade flowers – knitted, crocheted and fabric ones yeah? I’m thinking that this is going to take a LOT of flowers so I definitely need your help.
Can you make your favourite little shop some flowers?
Absolutely all contributions are welcome – for every ten flowers you contribute we will give you a raffle ticket and you’ll be entered into a prize draw to win one of three £15 vouchers to spend at Knit & Stitch.
Flowers wanted in any colour, any size (approx 2-8”), any shape but needs to be made from yarn, fabric or soft textiles, new or up-cycled. They will be left outside so will need to withstand the elements of the wonderful Yorkshire weather. Be as creative as you can, get all the family involved – there are patterns for beginners and more advanced crafty people but also search the internet for patterns too – you can find incredible patterns for fabric flowers.
I need the instalment ready for summer solstice (all being well) so would need the flowers by 13th June and can be dropped off at any of the shops. Winners of the vouchers will be announced on 20th June.
Our tutors have been working hard creating some flower patterns which can be found here.
We hope you enjoy getting involved and encourage you to share your progress (and frustrations!) on our Facebook VIP Group. Hints and tips will be shared from our tutors over the next few weeks and new patterns will be released along the way. If you're a 'hashtagger', please use #knitandstitchinbloom when posting on social media.
We're really looking forward to seeing your flowers ‘grow’ and can’t wait to see our shops all flowery in the summer all being well - we will need to see something cheery when we’re all finally allowed out again.
Any questions or if you need any help then just ask.
Take care of yourselves,
Hi Knit & Stitchers,
After following the latest government guidelines and listening to our dear customers we will be suspending all workshops and courses from today. We will monitor this situation closely and hope that we can get you back to classes as soon as possible. Any fees paid will be held until we resume.
We hope to find alternative dates for Saturday classes once we find some clarity on the situation. If you have booked onto any of these workshops we will be in touch with an alternative date in due course. Any refunds may take some time to administer but please email back and let me know if this is what you would prefer to do. Alternatively we can provide you with a gift voucher for the same amount.
The shops remain open for all your essential crafty needs but our opening hours will alter slightly:
We are happy to post out any orders if you want to give us a ring, see the shop's contact details below.
Keep an eye on our blog and Facebook page for a bit of virtual mingling and a little group project we are asking our customers to get involved with.
Stay safe and look after yourself and your loved ones!
Kath, Liz & the Knit & Stitch team
Hi Knitters and Stitchers,
I hope you're all surviving the storms, and that all your stashes have stayed safe and dry? Unfortunately our flat has suffered a leak, but luckily my partner knows better than not to make yarn preservation his main priority. After some of my more major projects resurfaing and getting finished in the move, I'm personally very ready for a quick gratifiction project!
And what better, than chunky slipper socks? Perfect for keeping you warm in your wellies and the ideal project to travel with. Come along to our workshop this Saturday to learn how to knit in the round, shaping heels, pick up gusset stitches and learn kitchener stitch for the perfect toe seam. Book your place here
Check out some of our favouite socks below. And if you fancy seeing some of your creations on our blog, grab a place on one of our popular weekly classes. It's the perfect way to dedicate two hours a week to knitting and crocheting with a patient and knowledgeable tutor, and lovey like minded students to support and inspire you. Tea, coffee and biscuits provided of course! Check out times and avaiabiity here
What's your favourite way to knit socks? Have you got a favourite sock yarn? Lots to choose from and inspire you in store.
Lots of love,
